  1. I talked to Maurin.
She has spoken a lot of languages.
In her old school she has learned Spanish, Latin, English French but this year she only learn English.

– Im Present Perfect müsste es: „I have talked to Maurin.“ heißen.
Somit passt dann das Simple Present besser: „She speaks a lot of languages.“

-> Müsste es also nicht heißen: In her old school she learned…?

          • Was zählt dann mehr?

Da weiß man schließlich, was man ausdrücken möchte 🙂

    • Is it right to use the present perfect for the injured people to emphasize the result that they are still injured in the present? Or is it necessary to use the simple past because in the sentence there is „last night“ as a definite time in the past.
So is it right to say: Last night two people died and four others have been injured.
or: Last night two people died and four others were injured. ?
Thank you for your answer- I hope you can help me, I am a litte bit confused.

      • It’s correct to use the present perfect. You already use the simple past for the people who died (they’re death now and won’t recover so it wouldn’t make sense to use present perfect for them) – I would only use „were injured“ if the accident happened several weeks ago and the injured people are fine again now.

        • and it doesn´t matter that there is the time word „last night“ in this sentence?
I learned at school that „last night“ is a key word for the simple past.
So the teacher could think: She didn´t notice the keyword and therefore the present perfect is wrong, couldn´t he??

    • Ja, darf man. Also so: Due to an accident last night two people died. Four people have been injured.

      • Aber der Satz „Four people have been injured“ bezieht sich doch dann noch auf die Zeitangabe des vorhergehenden Satzes, oder?
